Coaching Philosophy

Tarun goes by "The Cricket Alchemist" to the players and parents he works with — a nod to his ability to turn raw potential into consistent, match-ready performance. It's a philosophy best captured in his own words:

"My coaching philosophy is built on the belief that talent alone is never enough. Sustainable success comes from discipline, strong habits, continuous learning, and a commitment to improvement."

I strive to create a high-performance environment where players are challenged to think, compete, and grow every day. My role is not simply to teach skills, but to help cricketers develop the mindset, professionalism, and resilience required to perform consistently at higher levels of the game.

Every player is unique, and my approach focuses on understanding the individual while maintaining standards that prepare them for the demands of competitive cricket.

Technical Skills

Building efficient and repeatable batting, bowling, fielding and wicketkeeping techniques.

Game Awareness

Developing decision-making, tactical understanding, match intelligence and situational awareness.

Mindset & Performance Habits

Encouraging resilience, accountability, self-awareness, confidence and professionalism.

Physical Readiness

Supporting movement quality, athletic development and physical preparation appropriate to the player's age and stage of development.

Who I Coach

Whether you're an academy player taking your first steps in competitive cricket or a performance cricketer pursuing higher honours, my role is to help you maximise your potential. I work with:

  • U16, U19, U23 and senior cricketers
  • Club, District, State and pathway players
  • Batters, spinners, wicketkeepers and all-rounders
  • Players competing in T20, one-day and multi-day cricket

Methodology

My approach combines technical expertise, game-based learning, player-centred development, and performance analysis to help cricketers improve in a measurable and sustainable way. Key tools include:

  • Video analysis and technical feedback
  • Scenario-based training and match simulations
  • Individual development planning
  • Skill acquisition and motor learning principles
  • Performance review and reflection
  • Data and performance metrics (where available)
  • Position-specific coaching for batters, bowlers and wicketkeepers

My objective is to help players understand not only how to perform a skill, but when and why to apply it in competition.

A Typical Session

Preparation

Movement preparation and dynamic warm-up. Session objectives and focus areas.

Skill Development

Technical work tailored to individual needs. Progressive drills and skill challenges. Repetition with purpose and feedback.

Game Application

Match scenarios, decision-making exercises, and pressure-based training activities.

Review & Reflection

Key learning points, individual feedback, and action points for continued development.

"Technique provides the foundation, but mindset, game awareness and habits are what allow players to perform consistently under pressure."

What Players Say

"As a newcomer he made me feel very comfortable and tended to all my needs, and we had very valuable conversations which helped me and kept me in a very good space. He always tries to understand a person's game and what mindset they're in, which helps maintain great camaraderie. He's filled with knowledge about the game and experience as well, and possesses very good man-management skills. Overall very grateful that I met him."

Ajitesh Guruswamy Tamil Nadu Premier League / Tamil Nadu senior team, Ranji Trophy player

"Tarun sir has helped me improve my abilities in all aspects — fitness, cricket techniques, nutrition, and mental strength. His slight modifications have resulted in notable improvements in my batting and bowling. Our strategy discussions, where we analyse different game scenarios and the mindset required as a batsman, bowler, or captain, are truly remarkable. He means far more to me than just a coach."

Shourya Agarwal U-16 cricketer, Tamil Nadu

"From the very beginning he made me feel comfortable and welcomed me as a player. What I admire most is the importance he gives to a player's mindset — he understands cricket is as much a mental game as a physical one. He guided me in captaincy, sharing valuable insights on leadership, decision-making, field placements, communication, and handling pressure. Over time he became more than a coach — a mentor, a well-wisher, and someone I could trust."

Bhavik Dariyo U-16 Tamil Nadu State Captain / U-16 NCA (2025 batch)

"His way of thinking about batting is different from any coach I've worked with before. One piece of advice I'll always remember is, 'Play 200 balls and feel the moment.' Following that changed the way I looked at batting and made me believe I could play long innings. He puts tremendous effort into helping a batsman grow, not just technically but mentally as well. He is truly a players' favourite."

Sri Dharun Wicketkeeper-batsman, U-16 Tamil Nadu Captain / U-16 NCA (2026 batch)

"It has been a pleasure to collaborate with Coach Tarun over the past two years. His dedication to the TNCA U-16 Boys programme is truly commendable — he consistently works closely with the players, offering guidance and support, and his efforts have been instrumental in the team's progress. As a physiotherapist working with him for the past two years, he always keeps track of the players' injury and fitness status and helps manage their workload to keep them fit throughout the season."
